The Bible and Climate Change

by Foothills Church on October 20, 2019

In the sermon, Pastor Mark addressed several of the secular doomsday scenarios promoted by the world system (politicians, media, NGO’s, etc). He showed how so many doomsday predictions have proven false and that the world’s system always “drives us in panic” but the Lord “leads us in peace”. In this lesson we’ll learn that peace and confidence is the proper, rational Christian response even when genuine “shaking” occurs.

Often, when storms arise in life, people comfort each other saying, “Everything happens for a reason.” Do you believe that’s true? Why? Another saying, “Nothing can happen outside the will of God.” Again this is meant to comfort. But is it true? Can anything happen outside of God’s will?

Read Hebrews 12:25-29. In this passage we see that God allows instability and judgment (shaking) in the world in order to “remove those things which can be shaken, created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.”

  • (vs27) What “created things” do you think the Lord is “shaking” in today’s world? (Institutions, governments, mindsets, beliefs, etc.)
  • (vs.28) What is the healthy, godly response to this “shaking”?
